LifeLab shortlisted for prestigious award
LifeLab has been celebrated for its innovative work to improve the health and wellbeing of young people.
LifeLab is a unique research-based educational programme that empowers children and teenagers to understand the science behind their health, and to inform the choices they make for their own lives – for their health now, in the future, and for their future families.
It is a collaboration between the University of Southampton, NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre and University Hospital Southampton. More than 15,000 students have visited the facility at Southampton General Hospital, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, from over 100 schools in the region.
The programme has been shortlisted in the Health at Every Age category at this year’s Health & Wellbeing Awards organised by the Royal Society for Public Health.
The category celebrates initiatives that improve the health of a specific age group in the here and now and makes efforts to protect their future health.
Professor Kath Woods-Townsend said: “We are delighted to be recognised by such a prestigious organisation. Everyone involved in LifeLab strongly believes that we can improve the health of the population by starting with the younger generation. Being shortlisted in this fantastic category is a testament to everyone’s dedication to helping young people to understand more about their bodies and the impact of their choices.”
The Health & Wellbeing Awards will take place in November.
