Hampshire & Isle of Wight Saliva Testing Programme

- Educational Resources

These resources have been developed to support schools and colleges that are participating in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Saliva Testing Programme.

The resources are aimed at enabling students to explore their understanding of why we are being asked to follow specific public health guidelines, including mass testing and are ideally delivered the day before testing day.

The bitesize sessions have been designed to take no more than 15 minutes to fit into tutor time at school or college and cover themes including;

  • how mass testing helps stops the spread of the virus

  • how the saliva test works

  • why we have been asked to change our behaviour

  • how the vaccines work

The sessions are designed to engage students with the science behind the health messages, supporting the students’ understanding of how their actions can help keep their families and communities safer and acting as a reminder to do their test.

The module comprises of six sessions provided in three different formats:

  • a downloadable video that can be played and paused at any relevant points to facilitate a class discussion

  • a PowerPoint with all relevant video clip links so the content can be delivered by staff themselves

  • online short videos with auto-pause and interactive questions/discussion points for in-class play

The resources have been developed to be used by secondary schools and colleges who are participating in the HIOW Saliva Testing Programme. The sessions can be delivered in schools and colleges but have also been developed for interactive home learning in case students are self-isolating or prompted to complete a session for homework.
